Drone images show how lightning strike punched gaping hole in roof of house with family inside

A large hole left by lightning striking a roof has been photographed by a drone, offering a bird’s eye view of the destruction.

The property, in Wigan, Lancashire, was hit on the tiles during a storm on Thursday.

Although a family was inside at the time, no one was harmed during the incident.

They heard a ‘loud bang’ but were only alerted when neighbours across the road spotted smoke and flames pouring out from the roof and banged on their front door to get them out.
